Post a Comment. March 15, Summers are picking up here in India, and so is the heat. You do not feel to do much now in this season. You just want to lay around, being lazy. Well, hopefully, my previous posts have been useful to aspiring flautists like myself.
This course is for students interested to learn to play the bamboo flute in Hindustani classical style. This course will commence by teaching students about the twelve notes, comprising major and minor notes in Hindustani music, such, sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dha, ni and the way to play them on the flute. Students will get to practice the seven notes in in different scales and patterns before getting introduced to taal or rhythm cycle. Students undergoing this Fifty-Four week course will be first introduced to Hindustani flute and the holding of the instrument. Students knowing the way to hold and blow the flute will be at an advantage. Students after their initiation into playing the flute by correcting the holding and blowing a flute would get introduced to the seven plus 5 fundamental notes of Hindustani classical, comprising of major and minor notes such as sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dhi, ni. Moving on students will be taught to play shuddh and komal swar or notes; in other words, students through this exercise get to learn about major and minor scales.
Technically speaking, the bansuri is transverse cylindrical bamboo flute with 7 playing holes and one blowing hole. The bamboo used to make a bansuri is often collected from the regions in north and northeastern India such as Uttar Pradesh and Assam and is chosen, such that a complete piece can be cut without any nodes in it.
Learning Hindustani music takes much longer, even though you should begin learning as soon as you can play the notes. Just relax and take your time. To begin with, do not worry about covering any holes on the flute. It is far more important to get a sound first before we try to cover the holes and learn the notes. This first step concentrates on getting the sound. The idea is here is just to hold the flute up to your mouth so the the blowing hole is under your lips.
