Wishful Drinking by Carrie FisherIn Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. But it isnt all sweetness and light sabres. Alas, aside from a demanding career and her role as a single mother (not to mention the hyperspace hairdo), Carrie also spends her free time battling addiction, weathering the wild ride of manic depression and lounging around various mental institutions. Its an incredible tale—from having Elizabeth Taylor as a stepmother, to marrying (and divorcing) Paul Simon, from having the father of her daughter leave her for a man, to ultimately waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed.

Paul Simon Offers Condolences Over Ex-Wife Carrie Fisher's Passing
The song features vocals by The Everly Brothers. The lyrics deal with the singer's thoughts during a road trip to Graceland after the failure of his marriage. Actress and author Carrie Fisher , Simon's ex-wife, said that the song referred in part to their relationship. The song won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. It was the lowest-charting song on any of the world music charts to win Record of the Year until the Robert Plant and Alison Krauss US non-charting song " Please Read the Letter " won the same award in
Her passionate and intense relationship with -- and brief marriage to -- Simon brought forth some of his most incisive and deeply moving songs. Fisher, who died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack a few days previous, will forever be remembered as the iconic "Star Wars" character Princess Leia. I was 10 when that first film in the series was released, and like everyone else I knew, I loved Leia. Simon goes on to offer images that present him as naive, all but infantile, humbled by the power of this feminine presence. From the first moment I heard this tune, it both terrified and compelled me.
If was the year of the celebrity death, then it was also the year of the celebrity obituary. Putting to one side it also being the troubling year of Brexit, Trump and Putin, here is one very short, somewhat overdue obit for Carrie Fisher who died of a probable heart attack on December 27th, aged I interviewed her mother Debbie years ago and she was just as keen to talk about her even more famous daughter as she was her then upcoming show in Auckland. It was sad but somehow not shocking that Debbie died just one day after Carrie. Carrie Fisher was barely in her 20s when she started seeing Paul Simon and though their marriage in the early 80s only lasted a matter of months, they continued to date each other on and off for the rest of the decade.
Carrie was a special, wonderful girl. It's too soon. Their marriage did not last long and their relationship was, well, complicated. Eddie Fisher is a short, Jewish singer. Any questions? Celebrity Deaths: 's Fallen Stars. Carrie Fisher: A Life in Pictures.
