Egypt is a country in Africa. People have lived in that region for thousands and thousands of years. The Ancient Egyptians settled around the Nile River, and built pyramids that you can still see there today. The Ancient Egyptians knew a lot about maths, medicine and farming. They also made their own paper out of reeds called papyrus, and wrote using pictures called hieroglyphics.
Who were the Egyptians?
Five thousand 5, years ago, the ancient Egyptian made their home at the mouth of the Nile River, where the Nile runs into the Mediterranean Sea. It was a wonderful place to live. The soil was rich. Food was plentiful. They were surrounded by desert, which kept them safe from intruders, but the Nile kept their world green.
Ancient Egypt was a fascinating time in History. The first people to settle on the banks of the River Nile were hunters and fishermen. They arrived there about 8, years ago. What a super long time ago that was. They quickly learned how to grow crops, raise animals, build villages and towns, build boats and navigate the mighty river. At that time, there was no money, so they used to trade with their neighbors for goods and food.
